Yes. Listed on the IRS website as a Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA). A CAA is authorised by the IRS to assist individuals in obtaining an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) and to verify the authenticity of identity documents. Copies of passports and supporting documents are certified, so originals do not need to be sent to the IRS.
It is the document showing that the applicant meets the IRS criteria for an ITIN. ITINs are issued only to individuals who need one for a U.S. federal tax purpose, not to those who simply want one. Common examples:
Passport certification, completion of Form W-7, and a check that all supporting documents are correctly included. The application goes to the IRS by DHL courier, and a tracking link is provided. Its status is followed up until the ITIN is issued. The applicant is told the number by email as soon as it is issued, so it can be used straight away without waiting for Notice CP565 to arrive in the mail.
The IRS allows 7 weeks, or 9 to 11 weeks for applications submitted during peak season (15 January to 30 April) or from abroad. It varies with the time of year: around the 15 April and 15 October filing deadlines, it can take 12 to 16 weeks. Processing may take longer in exceptional circumstances, such as U.S. government shutdowns or severe weather affecting IRS operations.
Only if the application was submitted through this office. Under IRS procedure, a CAA may respond to a notice only for an application it has signed. If the applicant sent the application to the IRS directly, a new application must be submitted through the CAA.
